Film Fridays At The Varsity

Some of our staff have been heavily involved in programming and promoting a new film series at the Varisty Theatre on the strip in Carbondale.  Highlighting both Recent Films by Women and Avant Garde Cinema, the series works to bring important, yet rarely-seen, cinema to the rural midwest.  The program begins September 10, and is sponsored by the SIUC Student Fine Arts Activity Fee, The Varsity Center For The Arts, and Film Alternatives.

September 10: The Beaches of Agnés. Agnes Varda, 2008.

September 24: Avant Garde Explorations of Materiality. With films and videos by Anthony McCall, Paul Sharits, Chel White, Stan Vanderbeek, Owen Land, and Bill Viola.

October 1: The Headless Woman. Lucrecia Martel, 2008.

October 22: Avant Garde Explorations of Place. With films and videos by J.J. Murphy, Bruce Baillie, Ernie Gehr, Larry Gottheim, Marie Menken, and Carolee Schneemann.

November 12: The Order of Myths. Margaret Brown, 2008.
